Farida Tahir – MD/CEO

Farida Tahir is a graduate of Political Sciences, a seasoned banker with 19 years of banking experience, she has a post graduate diploma in management and has acquired a vast experience over the years in various positions in the Mega Banking Operations, Retail, and Commercial Banking from Africa International Bank (AIB), Platinum Bank Limited to Bank PHB Plc (1999 – 2010). She was a recipient of MD/CEO Bank PHB Plc commendation on business development in (2006), and she was a brand ambassador of the bank.

Afterwards, she resigned to pursue her dream of selfless service to the poor and the economically marginalized group in her community, which culminate her involvement in the microfinance banking system from mid 2010 to date. She joined Grassroot microfinance bank limited as the GM Business Development & Strategy, a position that was responsible for Products development, Research & Development, Marketing and Collaborations. She became a certified microfinance banker in 2011 by the chartered institute of bankers of Nigeria CIBN. This spurs her desire to obtain more training in various fields in microfinance from both local and international institutions. Following a confirmation of her leadership capabilities, un-relented passion and understanding of the market, she was appointed as the Ag.MD/CEO of the bank in February 2012 and became the substantive MD/CEO in 2013. Since she assumed this position her ultimate goal was to have a change of focus (based on the pressing demand for Islamic microfinance banking services from the market). An aim that triggered her to acquire a Masters degree in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Institute of Islamic Banking & Finance (IIIBF, BUK) in Nigeria). She has been the one spearheading the conversion of Grassroot MFB’s banking processes to Non-interest banking system, a process that has been on-going till date.

Farida is a member of the Financial Inclusion State Steering Committee (FISSCO) of the Central Bank of Nigeria. She got recognition on her contributions to youth empowerment by Trusted Northern Youths Awareness (Service to Humanity Award) 2017. She founded the Association of Islamic Microfinance Banks in Nigeria (AimBanks) in October 2016 which got registered in September 2017. She founded, MIA Primary Society which grown to MIA Cooperative, Credit & Marketing Union 2017 (100% women based with 4000 membership base). She worn ‘’Best rising Islamic microfinance personality’’ (GIMF) Global awards Nairobi, 2016, she also gave her contributions to the GIMF through a paper presentation at the forum. Other achievements include; Letter of Commendation by the board of Grassroot MFB, Member of Board of Trustees – New Faces, New Voices – Nigeria founded by Graca Micheal. As a onetime first lady of a local government community, Farida has been involved in many community development programs at Grassroot level that have impacted largely in the lives of people in her community. She does that through Gamzaki Women & Youths Development of Nigeria, an NGO she founded in 1998.

 

BALA UMARU – HEAD  IT & E-Business

An astute banking Professional with over 10 years experience and knowledge of banking operations, policies and procedures, Bala is a Self starter, self motivated and a result oriented team player with excellent leadership qualities.

Bala has served in various departments within the banking operations and across different branches of Habib Nigeria Bank Ltd and Bank PHB Plc between October 1999 and February 2010.

A one time winner of the best Service Leader/Operations Manager of the year 2008 for the South-South Branches and the third best, bank wide with cash reward and commendation from the CEO.

Bala Umaru holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto and B.sc (2nd Hons) Management from the same institution in 1996 and 1998 respectively. He also has a diploma in Computer Accounting. He has attended several professional courses covering Branch Management, Selling/Marketing skills, Human Resources Management, Accounting and Auditing, Risk Management and Personal skills Development in Business Management. Bala Umaru is a certified microfinance banker.

BENJAMINE ADHA – HEAD CREDIT & MARKETING

Benjamin John is an experience banker with over 10 years of experience. He has held several positions in the banking sector ranging from customer service, funds transfer, cash and general operations with FINBANK PLC. He joined Grassroot Microfinance bank limited in 2014 as internal control and audit officer of the bank. He has passed through several microfinance operations and leadership trainings with reputable firms in the country and from the CBN/NDIC.

He graduated with a Bsc. degree in Zoology from the ABU Zaria. He also became a certified microfinance banker by the CIBN in 2016. He is a member of ICAN and CIBN. Some professional training programs attended ranged from effective selling and marketing skills by Dales & Parker consultants, comprehensive banking operations, management training by Dales and parker. He is a diploma holder in computer accounting and application package.

ADETUTU MUFTAU ADENIYI – HEAD, INTERNAL AUDIT

Niyi owns a BSc in Archaeology from the University of Ibadan, he is a student member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a certified microfinance banker by the CIBN.

He started his working experience with Sulaiman & Co Chaterred accountants from 2006 to September 2010, where he served as Audit Trainee, Audit Junior and Audit Senior. He later joined Microcred Microfinance Bank Nig Ltd Kaduna where he served as Assistant Internal Audit from 2010 to 2011. In same organization, he headed the internal audit unit from August 2011-Sept 2012:  Niyi then left for Bigthana Microfinance Bank Nig Ltd and worked as Head of Internal Audit from October 2012 to June 2017. He joined Grassroot microfinance Bank Ltd in July 2017 as Head of Internal Audit till date. Since he joined Grassroot MFB, he has been working to ensure total reorganization of the bank’s control and compliance systems in line with the regulation banks internal policies.

 AUGUSTINE AGBEHI – HEAD, OPERATIONS

Augustine has a post graduate diploma in management PGDM from BUK (2012), a higher national diploma (HND) in Business Administration (2005) and a National diploma (ND) in Business Studies (2002) all from Kano state polytechnic.

He started his working experience with Waje community Bank Ltd in Kano from 2002 -2006 where he worked as a Teller to the level of Cash officer. He worked at the accounts department and letter moved to admin and general services were he worked diligently and satisfactorily. He earned a personal commendation by the Managing Director of the bank. He left the bank in 2006 for his national youth service at Illare community high school, Obokun Local Government of Osun State. In 2010 he joined Grassroot MFB Ltd as cash officer and later moved to assume the role of funds transfer officer of the bank. He has acted in the capacity of Head of operations of relief where he performed excellently before his relocation to Abuja in 2012 due to the security challenges in the state at that time. He joined Dajcom Limited in Abuja as the Admin manager from 2013 to 2016, and on the first of July 2017 Augustine returned to Grassroot microfinance bank Ltd as the head of operations till date. He is currently in the process of being certified by the CIBN.
